Hi There!
He’s a fun tune. Just a few weird notes to worry about. Flute Db (pinky only) and clarinet Eb (D plus right hand side key).
Once we get confident, we’ll try to play along with the original version of the song. It’s a fun challenge!

Hi!
Here’s a new slow song. Listen to the recording and try to capture the style, especially all the slurs.
The first pdf marked only ‘HYMN’ is the clarinet version. -

Hey There –
Here’s a fun one! Some of these rhythms are tricky, so it helps to listen to the original song and think about the words while you play it. We’ll spend a few weeks on this one! Also, make sure you are reading the correct one. The clarinet version is posted first, the flute version second.

Hi –
I hope you enjoy this fun tune in a more jazz style. It was one of the songs I really loved when I was learning music and I wanted to share it with you.
Below you’ll see a youtube clip (audio only) of the original version of the song. There’s some talking up front but its nice to listen to.
I also attached a version of me playing it…Read more

Hi There! Great work on God Bless America!
Here’s a really pretty Classical song. Got a couple tricky transitions for the clarinet. Best thing to do is work on it slowly at first. We’ll be focusing on the first line next week. I’ll have some more modern stuff for you soon as well!

Hi Gavin and Janice –
Here are three easy songs, but played way up high! It helps to learn high notes with music that is already familiar to us. These exercises will help us down the road, I promise!

Hi!
Keep working on Believer – challenge yourself to play it up to speed to match the original recording. (You can find it easily on YouTube).
Here’s a much simpler song, similar to the type of music you might receive in elementary school band. It’s a slower piece, so let’s really focus on the sound of EVERY note!

Hi –
Here’s the song I was looking for in our lesson! America the Beautiful is a great melody that will help extend our range. (High and low note extremes)
This is taken from a band arrangement, so for the purposes of our lessons we’ll be focusing on 5-21 only. -

Don’t forget the flats. Use your ears! If you play something that doesn’t sound correct… figure out why!

Here’s the Irish Folk Dance – You’ll need to play slurs, 8th notes, as well as follow the first and second ending.
We’re playing the A lines only. The goal is going to be to get from the beginning all the way to the end with out stopping!

Hi Janice and Gavin,
Since you’re so good at 8th notes I thought we’d do a march. As flute and clarinet players, it’s almost impossible not to come across a march style song at some point. This is a nice short one with some 8th notes and slurs. Try the A line (top). We’ll work on it in class next week.
Keep up the awesome work!

Hi There –
This week we’re slowing things way down and thinking all about being beautiful on our instruments. Hymn is on page 32 of the blue book.
When you’re ready, practice it along with the recording. Try to follow all the dynamics (loud and softs) as well as the slurs.

Jeremy A.Wall started the topic 1.10 The School Blues in the forum Monday Flute/Clarinet Class 3 years, 3 months ago
Let’s keep working on the Irish Folk Dance – especially those smooth slurs – but we are also going to begin working on a song that will really help us count 8th note rhythms. It’s called the School Blues – no slurs in this one. Go over your notes for next time, and we’ll work on the 8th notes together in class next week.
See you then!
Mr. Wall

Hi!
Here’s the music for Mercy Mercy Mercy, and check out the original recording! There is a bit of a talking introduction, but I’ve always enjoyed it. Hope you do as well.
I also created a version that might be a little easier to practice along with. Feel free to use it as a reference.

Hi There!
Here’s the music for this week – the Irish Folk Dance. Make sure you click on the correct piece below. IrishFolkDanceBb is for the Clarinet. The other is for flute.
It’s a slow song – so keep that air moving smooth through the instrument, and watch out for those slurs! -
