HI Drummers –
Keep working on that 16th note solo you are doing great! If you feel like you got it – play your rims every time you see the Xs.
We started with the warm-up as usual, but then we played it buzzing every stroke. This is more challenging, but a great way to develop your skills for drum rolls.
Speaking of drum rolls… take a look at…Read more -

Hi Saxes –
Great work improvising today – I heard some really great ideas! Keep going back to the pentatonic scales post – play the background music and pick a measure or two of the scale to make up some new melodies – its fun!
And of course, if you can memorize the notes in the pentatonic scale, it gets even easier.
We have one new tune for…Read more -

Hey Everyone!

Also, we’ll try to do all of the Theme from Hadyn – which requires us to tongue the high notes.
And finally – you’ll see Let’s Go Band attached below, it’s one of…Read more -

We did the C scale at 60 beats per minute today with 8th notes – we’ll try 70 next time.
And check out the Sugar post. We started that tune today as well, and we’ll keep working on it the next couple weeks. -

Hi Guys,
The Pentatonic Scale is a five note scale that is used a lot in modern music like Jazz, Blues, Rock and R&B, Hip-Hop, basically everything.
You can make up some great melodies using this scale, it pretty much always sounds good!
The major pentatonic scale is created by taking a scale, and removing the 4th and 7th notes. So a F major…Read more

Hi Clarinets –
I posted a new song… Minuet in G. (although we’ll play it in the Key of C). If you are confident in the high notes give it a shot. If not.. no worry – we’ll keep working on our lower notes.
I posted an easier to read and play version of Sugar. There are some high C’s still in it – but you can use the alternate C (Bb with the top…Read more -

Hi Violins –
Great work! Let’s focus on Section C for our warm-up next week. Those slurs mean keep the bow moving for four notes at a time.
We played the English Folk Tune this week at about 100 beats per minute. That’s pretty fast, but let’s see if we can get it up even higher for next time!
Finally, keep working on that Cabbage Song. If you…Read more -
