Hi Violins –
Here’s the song Boil “em Cabbages Down. Check out the video. It features some truly great musicians playing together. This is trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and his band playing with Mark O’Connor on fiddle. The song is one I teach to first year violinsists.
This version is a little more complicated!

Hi Clarinets!
You all did great work on the first line of Music of the Night. And then we decided not to do this song anymore!!! There were some errors in the music, and it was just frustratingly hard. My bad… let’s move on!
We began the jazz song Sugar, and it seemed like that one was a lot more fun.
Visit that post and check it out – we’ll…Read more -

Hi Violins!
You sounded great!
Let’s focus on reading that ROCK TUNE! With the three different types of notes. Half Notes (LONG BOW) – quarter notes (short bow – these are the normal notes) and 8th notes (Pepperoni! These are the fast ones.) Use the drum beat on the post to get the rock feel. Next time we’ll see if we can play it all the way through! -

Hi Violins –
Wow – you were sounding great on Star Wars!
Visit the Star Wars post – you’ll see I attached a new version of the tune with the SLURS. We started working on those this week, where we play the triplets smoothly by not changing the bow direction.
Also, try the orchestra warm up – the A section. The notes aren’t written in, but it’s…Read more -

Hi Trumpets!
Keep working on that C scale, try to play as quickly as you are comfortable. It’s a great way to build your trumpet skills.
And we’re going to stick with Ja-Da again one more week, but if you get sick of that tune – check out the Sugar post. That’s another jazz style song and a real classic! I hope you’ll like it! -

Hi Violins!
Great work on Star Wars today, wow! Everyone I heard was really sounding great. Remember – If you’re not sure of something, ask! I want to make sure you all understand what I’m saying, and if you don’t – I’m probably not saying it right!
We worked on the Orchestra Warm-Up letters A and B – review those, they don’t have the notes…Read more -

Hey Camilo!
Awesome Job! Especially with that Ja-Da tune! Wow!!!!
We worked on a challenging way to play the C scale with different note groupings! One, two and three per beat. That’s something pro’s do to help train their fingers – it’s tough!
Finally, Minuet! Work on the first two lines – they’re almost exactly the same. You’ll also notice…Read more -

We reviewed Cabbage Song! And then… Rock Tune! Next time we’ll work on the last line and try to play the whole song without stopping!
Keep up the great work!
And remember both of you, try to be perfect with your left hand position! It will help all the notes sound great. -

Hey Guys!
This class was clarinet only – We played the C scale – this time in different note groupings (Quarter notes, 8th notes, and then triplets). That’s an advanced way to challenge your finger speed! It’s pretty tough!
Then we played Music of The Night ALL the way through! No stopping! Normally we’d have concerts and band rehearsals that…Read more -

Hi Flutes –
Nice work on Lightly Row! I’d like to hear a little from everyone next week so work on that tune – You’ll find it in the Green Flute Book 1 under the RESOURCES tab at the top right of this screen.
I’m impressed with everyone’s sound. Remember, if something doesn’t sound right – your fingers aren’t right! Try to figure it out and fix…Read more -

Hey Saxes –
This class was all about finding our comfort zone- and then pushing beyond it.
With the G scale, we tried to play the scale using different groupings per beat. Quarter notes (1) 8th notes (2) 8th note triplets (3) and 16th notes (4). We even tried quintuplet 16th notes (5) – which is insanely fast. Don’t worry if you can do that,…Read more - Load More
